Grandma's Equal Inheritance

The Story

Beatriz Suárez surprises her family by revealing that her late husband’s estate will be split equally between her two grandsons. Nine years ago, she gave each of them five hundred thousand dollars to travel abroad. One grandson returns with a PhD and a million dollar salary, while the other comes home with a battered suitcase and visible scars. The family assumes the second grandson squandered his inheritance, but he explains that he used the funds to support students, construct a library, and volunteer in Africa. The successful grandson immediately demands the old family house for himself. Beatriz calmly presents her will, stating that the house and all savings will be divided equally between them, leaving the family stunned by her decision.
