The Story

Lucian abandons his post guarding the Underworld gates to escape with Mila, his daughter who carries the power of the River Styx. They settle in the mortal city of Vesper seeking a quiet existence. Lucian saves Valerie, the Ashford heir, from hunters. She proposes a contract marriage to avoid an arranged union, and they wed. The Hawthorne family moves in, kidnapping Valerie and dispatching Underworld envoys to kill. Mila uses her superhuman strength to protect her mother repeatedly while Lucian silently erases their memories. She also hacks enemy bugs to expose cousin Gavin’s plot to forge drug evidence and frame Valerie. At the family council, the father and daughter dismantle the scheme. Adrian arrives with gunmen to seize the docks. Charon sends Ronan into the mortal world, placing their peace under threat from both the Underworld and the mob.
