The Story

Daphne leaves her marriage after seven years of invisible devotion. She cuts her hair and he misses it, yet spots Chloe’s new glasses immediately. The man keeps Chloe’s medication notes and drapes his jacket over her shoulders, placing Daphne consistently in the background. Alone in the emergency room, she removes her wedding ring, destroys her phone, and flies to Santa Fe. Through security cameras, she watches him finally realize she is gone. He discovers her notebooks filled with quiet disappointment and chases her with a late diamond ring before drowning in hospital bills. Daphne discards the entire situation and starts her life over. She no longer accepts being last.
