The Story

Commoner Nefei faces immediate execution after giving birth to three tiny kittens instead of human heirs. She talks her way out of death by claiming the strange outcome was caused by trapped gas. The pharaoh, a cold ruler who kills every consort bearing his children, accepts this explanation. Nefei does not know the kittens carry the bloodline of the cat goddess Bastet. She also remains unaware that the king is Bastet’s son. As a girl, she once saved him from danger. This hidden connection binds their fates together in ancient Egypt.
