I Gave You Five Years
The Story
A selfie from a man’s car shatters five years of silence. The caption calls him a hero who drove two hours to save another woman. That same afternoon, he told his wife he could not leave work while she lost their baby. She had cooked his meals, surrendered her car, and slept alone in hospitals while he held a different woman’s IV drip. The discovery of a photo with his handwriting on the back, labeling the stranger as the girl of his dreams, triggers a cold reaction. She does not cry or scream. Instead, she calls her lawyer and packs her entire life into three boxes. Leaving her ring on the table, she vanishes. He now struggles to eat or sleep, kneeling in the rain outside her old door. Yet she is already 1,200 miles away. There, she builds a new life with a man who shows up without being asked.
