The Story

Princess Wu Zhao of the Great Xia Dynasty risks everything to secure her brother’s future on the throne. She hides her identity and fights for three years as the Marquis of Lanling, leading her army to decisive victories against the Northern Mang. This success creates a solid foundation for Wu Rui’s ascension. However, triumph brings betrayal when Wu Rui, now the crown prince, allies with powerful officials to force Wu Zhao into a marriage with a Turkic ruler. Refusing this injustice, she tears up the imperial edict in court and reveals her true identity. She mobilizes three hundred thousand Lanling cavalry to eliminate the treacherous officials. Wu Zhao must also contend with the imposter marquis, defend against the Turkic army, and overcome the court’s opposition. With extraordinary wisdom and courage, she resolves each crisis and purges the court. She ascends the throne as Empress Wu. The new ruler abolishes the old system that oppressed women and implements new policies to allow women more freedom.
