Mercy’s Line
The Story
Janet, a single Chinese-American convenience store owner, loses her peace of mind when Maria, a spiteful neighbor, reports her over a minor charger dispute. The accusation results in a $10,000 fine, prompting Janet to lock her private lot that she had freely opened for neighbors for three years. This decision triggers community traffic chaos as Maria’s endless retaliation escalates to attempted arson. With the support of lawyer Frank and the residents, Janet wins the lawsuit. The legal victory forces Maria and her son to face jail time and compensation. Janet eventually runs a legal parking and auto shop, while her son gets into a top university. She gains peace and a new life.
