My Brother, My Dog
The Story
Rowan discovers his long-lost brother, Cain, on a city corner after twenty years of silence. The mentally impaired man acts like a stray dog, guarding food and biting strangers. Rowan takes him in, feeding him bread and teaching him basic hygiene while coaxing him to take his medicine. Slowly, Cain transforms into an obedient companion. However, strange behaviors emerge as the dynamic shifts. Cain snatches candy directly from Rowan's mouth and slobbers all over him. He pleads with red-rimmed eyes, begging not to be sent away. These actions reveal a deeper truth about their bond. Rowan realizes that taming a wild creature often results in the owner becoming the one truly tethered. The dynamic between the two brothers evolves from caretaker and dependent into something more complex and binding.
