The Story

Esther spends five years trapped in a violent marriage with Carl, who cheats, strikes her, and indirectly causes their daughter's death. On their anniversary, a fight ends in Carl's accidental death. Shocked, Esther buries him in the backyard and goes to bed. The next morning, Carl reappears alive. He acts like the gentle, loving man he once was, completely unlike the cruel husband she just interred. Esther remains confused by this sudden transformation. She questions whether Carl rose from the dead or if someone else replaced him.
