My Duplicated Husband

The Story

Five years of abuse end in a single violent blow. Carl, Esther’s husband, strikes her during their anniversary fight and falls dead. In a state of shock, Esther buries his body in the backyard and returns to bed. The next morning, Carl stands in the kitchen, alive and radiating the warmth of their early romance. This gentle man bears no resemblance to the violent partner she buried the night before. Esther watches him with growing unease. The man before her acts nothing like the abuser she knew. She begins to question the nature of his return. Did Carl somehow rise from the grave, or has an imposter taken his place? The gentle stranger in her home keeps her in a state of constant suspicion. She cannot trust the warmth that surrounds her. The truth of who stands before her remains hidden behind his smiling face.
