Second Chance at Life

The Story

Avery Ross wakes up after eighteen years of serving as the safety net for Caleb Bennett, who just humiliated her in front of the entire auditorium. He held her down so Bailey could cut off her hair, a cruel act meant to secure his place in a popular crowd. The laughter stings, but it also triggers a profound shift. Avery withdraws from college, returns home, and spends a gap year rebuilding her identity from scratch. Her hard work pays off with a perfect SAT score and a place at Columbia University. Without her constant cleanup, Caleb’s life unravels. Bailey discards him, the school expels him, and his family falls apart. During her recovery, Avery meets Lucas, a top student bound for MIT. Their relationship grows on a foundation of equality, respect, and mutual support. She stops acting as a sidekick or a sacrifice. Instead, she steps into the lead role of her own life, having finally reclaimed her independence and future.
