The Story

Verna Collins visits her daughter Sheryl Vance following the birth of a child, only to meet Ivy Wright, who poses as a beggar to find a wife for her father Emerson. Ivy arranges a blind date, leading Emerson to suspect Verna is a fraud. He pretends to be a delivery man, but Verna remains unfazed by his deception. Emerson becomes charmed by her kindness and marries her. Verna later discovers that Sheryl lied to block contact with her grandson by hiring an actor to play her at a party. When Verna confronts Sheryl, she gets accused of fraud. In-laws attack Verna, but Emerson intervenes to protect her. The Dylan family insults Emerson, believing him to be a delivery man. A Wright Group VP arrives, recognizes Emerson, and stays silent per instruction. The Dylan family loses the Wright Group deal and blames Verna. Heartbroken, Verna learns the true nature of Sheryl. Emerson buys a second-hand house to cheer her up, accidentally meeting Sheryl and Natalie there.
