The Fire That Divided Them

The Story

Childhood friends turned spouses face a bitter rupture after a fire leaves him convinced she abandoned him. For three years, he sends over a hundred divorce notices, each met with her silent endurance. At a social gathering, he publicly favors her stepsister, forces her to drink despite her intolerance, and strikes her until her hearing device shatters, destroying her final affection. She accepts a proposal from a reclusive billionaire to further her late mother's medical research and signs the divorce papers. The stepsister then creates fake video evidence to incite him, prompting a counter move where he engages to her in an attempt to provoke a reaction. On that same day, he watches his ex-wife marry the city's wealthiest man. His vengeful schemes ultimately bankrupt his own company. Reduced to poverty, he begs for reconciliation, but she has long since moved on and rejects him with cold indifference.
