The Freshman Fake

The Story

Maya, a socially anxious Chinese-American student, escapes the guzheng prodigy label by posting original songs as the male gamer alias Mason. Her anonymous tracks earn high praise from campus music talent Ethan, leading her to pretend she is Mason and partner with him for the music festival. As they grow fond of each other, Maya fends off schemes from Ethan’s ex-girlfriend Chloe and deals with family pressure. During the finals, she reveals her true identity to the crowd. This revelation breaks existing stereotypes and allows her to secure her musical dream while winning Ethan’s love.
