The Manhattan Property Queen: My Husband Wanted to Go Dutch

The Story

Thirty years of silent domestic service end abruptly when a retired police officer demands a fifty-fifty split on every household expense. His wife accepts the terms with cold resolve, choosing to leave the marriage with no material assets. The extended family mocks her apparent poverty, assuming she is trapped in a dilapidated rental unit paying eight hundred dollars monthly. They ignore the reality that she commands a dominant presence in the Manhattan real estate market as a powerful tycoon. Her unfilial son offers a insulting stipend of five hundred dollars monthly for her to serve as their housekeeper. She retaliates by selling the property he owns, instantly displacing the entire household. Chaos erupts as her gambling-addicted brother-in-law loses his life savings to a girlfriend, her mother-in-law faces brutal street violence from loan sharks, and her ex-husband suffers a cardiac event. Amidst this family collapse, she maintains her position, reminding them that they forced the financial separation.
