The Replicated Husband

The Story

Esther buries her abusive husband Carl in the backyard after accidentally killing him during a violent fight on their fifth anniversary. The next morning, Carl stands before her alive and well. He behaves with the same gentle affection he showed when they first fell in love, a stark contrast to the violent man she just interred. Esther is left bewildered by this sudden transformation. The man in front of her acts as a loving partner, completely ignoring the five years of cruelty and infidelity that preceded this event. She struggles to comprehend how the individual she buried could return with such a radically different personality. The situation defies logic, leaving her uncertain whether the dead have risen or if an imposter has taken her spouse's place.
