Too Late, Clair Collins

The Story

Jake Hudson’s path at a Los Angeles business school intersects with the powerful Collins family after Clair, the eldest daughter, rescues him from a fraternity incident. A subsequent drugging plot leaves Jake in Clair’s room, prompting the elder Collins to arrange a contract marriage between them. The elder also secretly tasks Jake with identifying a traitor within the corporation. Clair remains cold and distant throughout their union, misunderstanding his scheming nature and allowing others to humiliate him. Jake stays patient, concealing his true feelings while protecting Clair and contributing silently to the company. After three years, Jake decides to leave, believing he has repaid his debt of gratitude. This departure forces Clair to realize he was not behind the poisoning incident and had made significant contributions to the corporation. Overcome with guilt, she begins to pursue him, gradually discovering his resilience, independence, and deep affection for her.
