The Story

Alexander White returns to his old neighborhood with his mother Eleanor to donate to a local school. There, he encounters Sophie Stone, a young woman trapped by her gambling-addicted father and snobbish mother who pressure her to drop out of school and marry. Alexander steps in to fund her community college education. Three years later, Sophie distorts his benevolence into a grooming romance, expecting to become the mistress of the White family. She brings her greedy relatives to Alexander seeking refuge. He hires them all as servants.
