The Story

Eleanor Caldwell breaks free from eight years of domesticity when she secures a new position just as her daughter Emma begins school. Tragedy shatters this fresh start when her mother Martha is hospitalized in critical condition. A broken phone prevents Eleanor from hearing her father’s desperate pleas. That same night, she rushes an injured Emma to the emergency room, narrowly missing her father. Unable to contact Eleanor, the father alerts her husband Gideon Stanton. Gideon and the Stanton Matriarch conspire to conceal the news, stripping Eleanor of her final goodbye with Martha. Her furious father believes Eleanor deliberately ignored her dying mother. He demands she face Clan rules and discipline at his wife’s funeral three days later.
