A Sacrifice to the Milky Way

The Story

The heavenly tribulation spares two sisters, yet their paths diverge immediately upon ascension. One selects the Upper Realm to pursue the Great Dao, while the other shatters her immortal bones to remain in the mortal world as an empress for a human ruler. When the senior sister’s spirit later wanders into the lower realm, she discovers her junior trapped beneath the Demon-Locking Tower. Her spiritual veins are severed, and her body has withered into a state of decay, serving only to stabilize the empire’s fortune. What began as devotion has curdled into disgrace, with celebrations marking her downfall rather than her sacrifice. From the ninth heaven, the senior sister settles every debt owed to her sister. She guards the fading soul to ensure it finds peace, finally laying to rest an obsession that crossed the boundary between immortals and mortals. The cycle of betrayal and suffering ends as the surviving sister ensures her companion’s spirit can finally rest, free from the burdens of the lower realm.
