The Story

Jiang Chun faces deadly threats from her superstitious mother-in-law, Li Laidi, who forces the pregnant woman to drink cephalosporin disguised as a special medicine. Li Laidi also blocks access to prenatal care. Zhao Weiguang, an executive working away, returns home unexpectedly and accidentally consumes the drug meant for his wife. The incident triggers severe anaphylactic shock. Gambling friends convince Li Laidi that her daughter-in-law is unfaithful. She falsely accuses Jiang Chun and obstructs emergency medical treatment. These actions lead to Zhao Weiguang’s death and Jiang Chun’s miscarriage due to abuse. The truth eventually surfaces. In a fit of rage, the father-in-law paralyzes Li Laidi and goes to prison for intentional injury. Jiang Chun leaves the Zhao family with her surviving child. She takes only a portion of the recovered money.
