The Story

A ten-year-old girl named Lily suffers painful red shocks from her bracelet every time she speaks the truth, while her sister Ruby’s device remains green despite her malicious actions. Their mother dismisses Lily as a chronic liar based on these false signals. On New Year’s Eve, Lily dies from appendicitis, and her mother still refuses to believe her. The mother later discovers the bracelet actually measures fear rather than deception. Guilt consumes her, driving her into a descent into madness. Ruby becomes crippled, and the entire family structure collapses under the weight of this tragic error. The mother eventually dies while clutching Lily’s diary, trapped in the ruins of a household destroyed by a simple misunderstanding of the technology they trusted.
