He Made Me the Joke, So I Went Home to the Mafia
The Story
Wilson Hale and Chloe Mercer turn their anniversary into a recurring prank, hiding a fake ring and a room full of laughter. Wilson assumes Vivian loves him too much to leave, even as cake cream slides down her face and her ring hits the marble floor. He smiles, expecting forgiveness by morning, but he forgets a crucial detail. Vivian is not the lonely girl with nowhere to go. She is Vivian Vescari, daughter of the most feared mafia family on the East Coast. She left that world because she wanted to be loved before anyone knew her name. For six years, she believed Wilson was that man. Then she learned his first confession had been an April Fools bet. She stops being the joke and goes home.
