Regret Is the Punishment
The Story
Karen, a stay-at-home mother to five-year-old Anna, leaves her home while her husband, a wealthy lawyer named Tom, is elsewhere. A fire breaks out in the house, causing Anna to fall and die. Bob, the fire captain, drives a truck carrying the child and a kind-hearted woman named Merry toward the hospital. They race against time to reach the emergency room for critical surgery. As the truck speeds along, it collides with Karen’s car. She has just returned from an affair and immediately demands an apology and compensation for the damage. Her insistence wastes precious minutes. Merry, paramedic Eve, and several bystanders attempt to persuade her to move the vehicle. Karen refuses to budge. She remains oblivious to the fact that the emergency vehicle is transporting her own daughter. The tragedy unfolds in real time as her stubbornness delays the rescue effort.
