Regret Is the Ultimate Punishment
The Story
Karen, a stay-at-home mother, returns home to find her house engulfed in flames. Her five-year-old daughter Anna has suffered a fatal fall. Fire Chief Bob rushes Anna to the hospital on his truck, with Good Samaritan Merry along for the ride. The team needs immediate access to the emergency room for surgery. As Bob speeds down the street, the fire truck collides with Karen’s car, which she was driving while returning from a secret affair. Unaware of the emergency, Karen demands the crew kneel and apologize for the damage. She refuses to move her vehicle, wasting critical minutes. Merry, paramedic Eve, and nearby bystanders beg her to clear the path. Karen remains stubborn and unmoved. She does not realize that the child inside the truck is her own daughter. The tragedy unfolds as her insistence on a public apology prevents the medical team from reaching Anna in time.
