The Firefighter's Choice

The Story

Lily’s hand vanishes into the flames while her father, a firefighter, ignores her cries to save his childhood dog, Chloe. The mother watches helplessly as the tragedy unfolds, trusting her husband’s professional judgment. Later, Chloe whispers to the child, telling her to stop struggling because no one will believe the truth. The family accepts the accident, but the illusion shatters when police contact them regarding the death certificate. The father overhears Chloe laughing and confessing that she set the fire and locked the door to claim Ethan for herself. The devastating reality emerges too late, revealing that the choice to save the dog was a calculated act of betrayal that destroys the family’s world.
