The Girl Who Claimed a Cowboy’s Name
The Story
Five-year-old Ava rides into Blackridge Ranch on a black horse, clutching a Hawthorne silver badge and three guiding stones. She insists ranch owner Cole is her father. Possessing the ability to understand animal speech and stop bleeding with small hands, she proves her worth when she saves Cole from danger at Red Creek. During the night of the great fire, she rings the warning bell alongside him to protect the entire ranch. The revelation that she is not Cole’s biological daughter threatens to send her away. Just as that fate seems inevitable, Cole publicly claims her as his daughter. He writes her name into the Hawthorne family records. This act demonstrates that family is defined by the choice to belong to each other rather than by blood ties.
