The Girl Who Claimed a Cowboy’s Name
The Story
Five-year-old Ava rides into Blackridge Ranch on a black horse, clutching a Hawthorne silver badge and three guiding stones. She insists ranch owner Cole is her daddy, backed by her ability to understand animal speech and stop bleeding with small hands. Her loyalty proves vital when she rescues Cole from danger at Red Creek. Later, during the great fire, she rings the warning bell alongside him to protect the entire ranch. The revelation that she is not his biological daughter threatens to separate them once more. Just as Ava faces the prospect of being sent away, Cole publicly claims her as his daughter. He writes her name into the Hawthorne family records, affirming that family is defined by the choice to belong to one another rather than blood ties.
