The Green Lie and The Red Truth
The Story
Ten-year-old Lily suffers electric shocks whenever she tells the truth because her mother trusts a bracelet that turns red. Her twin Ruby wears a fake green device, framing Lily for her own mischief while their mother ignores Lily’s pain. On New Year’s Eve, Lily’s appendix ruptures, causing the bracelet to turn red again. Believing her daughter is lying, the mother locks her in a room to watch fireworks. Lily dies alone and leaves behind a journal. The mother later discovers the device detects fear, not lies. She puts on the bloody bracelet and begins receiving constant shocks from her own guilt. This torment drives her into madness, leading her to punish Ruby. She dies while clutching the journal, finally granting Lily’s spirit peace.
