The Story

Shen Mengyao trades her wealthy heritage for a rural marriage with Zhuang Shixian, a man who has been married before. Her mother, Lin Jie, reluctantly agrees to a five-year pact that promises acceptance and business control if the couple stays happy. Hope fades quickly as Mengyao endures domestic abuse, financial ruin, and the scorn of her mother-in-law over the birth of a daughter. Ashamed and silent, she suffers through the years.
