The lie and the real truth

The Story

Ten-year-old Lily faces brutal accusations from her mother, who trusts a flawed lie-detector bracelet over her daughter’s words. Her twin, Ruby, wears a fake green band to frame Lily for every mistake. The mother, blinded by bias, ignores Lily’s severe pain, mistaking her screams for tantrums on New Year's Eve. She locks the girl away to watch fireworks while Lily suffers a ruptured appendix. Lily dies alone in the dark. Days later, the mother discovers the body and the journal, learning the device tracks fear, not lies. Putting on the blood-stained bracelet, she is shocked by the truth of her own deceptions. Guilt drives her insane. Ruby becomes crippled in a truck accident, and the father dies in despair. The mother eventually expires while clutching Lily’s journal, leaving the girl to find eternal peace.
