The Mic Was Still On

The Story

Jessamine Carrington walks into the Comets headquarters as the new president, a title that requires no surname. Nine years ago, she transformed Dashiell from an undrafted player with damaged knees into the team captain, sacrificing her own career to manage his rise. He betrayed her by sleeping with a twenty-one-year content producer, handing that girl her personal training program, and lying to cameras about his family while his pregnant wife waited alone in the emergency room. Dashiell forgot to mute his microphone after the game. Jessamine downloaded three copies of the confession. She then called his mother, the board chair, to announce her departure with two simple words. She left behind the nursery, jerseys, and baby skates bearing his number. Instead, she took four rehab journals, a passport, and the original manuscript he claimed was worthless. Six months later, she returns to lead the franchise.
