The Punishment Named Regret
The Story
Karen, a wealthy housewife married to attorney Tom, faces a sudden tragedy when a fire engulfs their home while she is away. Her five-year-old daughter Anna falls during the blaze, prompting good samaritan Mary to accompany the child in a fire truck driven by Fire Chief Bob. Anna requires emergency surgery, and the crew races toward the hospital. As the truck approaches, it collides with Karen’s car, which she is driving while returning from an affair. Instead of assisting the emergency vehicle, Karen demands an apology and compensation from the firefighters. This confrontation wastes critical minutes. Mary, paramedic Eve, and bystanders plead with Karen to clear the path, but she remains stubbornly obstructive. Throughout the delay, Karen stays completely unaware that the vehicle she is blocking is transporting her own daughter to save her life.
