Through Our Ashes

The Story

Elizabeth waits through the night in the emergency room, only to learn her mother has died. She calls her husband, Adam, expecting comfort, but hears another woman moaning instead. He is with another. She fights to keep her voice steady while he screams at her for one hundred million dollars. Adam questions why she would blackmail him after three years of generosity. He dismisses the death, stating that even if his mother joined the Creator, she is not worth the money. Before he hangs up, the woman whispers that she cannot wait any longer. The betrayal is absolute.
