The Story

Emma and her cousin Isabella rescue two wolf beastkin twins from the Underground Beast Trade. Emma takes Brian while Isabella adopts Logan. Thirteen years later, Emma believes Brian feels gratitude for his salvation. Her perception shatters when she overhears a private conversation between Brian and other beastkin. A companion questions why Brian remains cold toward Emma, noting her kindness. Brian dismisses her efforts, stating she did not ask for his gratitude. He reveals that he would rather be with Isabella, the head cheerleader, than with Emma. Another voice adds that Isabella is special compared to Emma, who is considered nothing. A dull ache spreads through Emma's chest as she processes the words. In that moment, every feeling she held for Brian over the years quietly disappears.
